The Mandala Series
The Mandala series, as with all of my art, is a personal journey and exploration using paint as the vehicle. This series is a departure from my other abstract paintings, although it is still influenced by my previous work. This was intentional in order to achieve my goals. Through my research, in art and architecture, I found the utilization of the circle and square. This motif was represented abstractly and figurativelly in either a ceremonial, cultural, philosophical, or religious way. I was fascinated by the use of the mandala and how in Eastern religion, it was used as a vehicle for contemplation and concentration.
I have always thought of painting as a form of meditation. This particular series is a journey exploring the possiblilities of using these ancient symbols in contemporary times. Searching for the intrinsic value by combining symbols as color, which has a long history in human development, and how we relate to these symbols today. This is an on going series which continues to evolve and my intention is to draw the viewer in and perhaps inspire them onto their own journey of discovery.
